What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy uses soft tissue and myofascial release and integration techniques with the aim of restoring balance to the body and promoting healing. Myofascia is the strong, densely woven connective tissue spread throughout the whole body in a web from head to foot. The therapy is not considered massage, but rather a non-invasive muscle release/integration technique. However, like massage, it is known to release muscular tension and Bowen Therapy clients describe experiences of significant relaxation after a session.

How Does Bowen Therapy Work?

Bowen Therapy uses a gentle, rolling motion with very light touches. This approach works to either tighten or release muscles depending on how this is performed. The Bowen Therapist will stimulate sets of points, often with pauses of a couple of minutes, which Bowen Therapists believe allows the body to respond to the therapy. Sessions typically last around 30 minutes.

How Bowen Therapy Helps Back Pain

Bowen Therapists work on the basis that the gentle soft tissue and myofascial release and integration from Bowen Therapy allows the body to correct dysfunction and maintain balance. Bowen therapists advocate that this can reduce or eliminate back pain and promote general health.
